Basic Introduction

The Automated Plain-Language Address (PLA) Scanner is a lightweight address verification system. The system allows a user to search active PLAs and scan composed messages for any invalid PLAs in format lines 6, 7, and 8.

The system is comprised of three sections:

The three interfaces allow the user to verify PLAs are current and accurate, scan messages, and search the active PLA list independent of a message.

Update PLAs

To update PLAs, the user can upload the Online Navy Message Generator Official Information Exchange (OIX) PLA Directory to APLAS:

  1. Go to the PLA update page indicated by the sprocket icon.
  2. Select CLick Here to upload the PLAD.txt file from OIX.
  3. The selected file will appear on the left side of the screen.
  4. Select Process List and wait for the PLAs Processed alert.
  5. The Last PLA Update Message Applied date should update to the date reflected at the top of the OIX PLAD.txt file. If the date is red, the file date is greater than 30 days old.
  6. If an error occurs, notify the app owner to investigate the error by clicking the Contact Us link in the footer.

Scan Message

To scan a completed message, the user should go to the message scanner page and upload the message. Once uploaded, the message will be visible on the left and can be scanned. Any invalid PLAs will highlight in red:

  • Go to the message scan page indicated by the message icon icon.
  • Select CLick Here to upload the .txt message file. Once a file is selected it will become visible on the left side of the window.
  • Select Scan Message and wait for the scan complete alert. Invalid PLAs to be highlighted in red after the scan.
  • Changes to the message must be made in the original file, and then the message can be re-scanned to verify PLAs are correct.
  • 5. If an error occurs, notify the app owner to investigate the error by clicking the Contact Us link in the footer.

Quick Search PLAs

In the site header, the Quick Search bar allows the user to quickly search the PLA library. Just type any portion of the PLA that you know and a filtered list of PLAs will appear on the page.

CASREP Addressing Tool

The CASREP Addressing Tool is a simple multi-select menu that applies all addresses assocated with the selection. Select all menu options that apply. The resulting list should define all required action and info addees.

If you find any addees or categories that need to updated, contact the site administrator.
